Italian language classes

In order to attend the Italian language classes (both in person and online) you must first of all register for the placement test, that is mandatory for all the students, even those who do not have any Italian language knowledge at all.

The test is only finalised to put students in a class according to their entry language level, so there is no passing or failure.

The test is online and only written.

Please find below the steps to register and to do the placement test:

  1. Subscribe to the CLI website: https://portal.cli.unipi.it/web/signup?
    If you do not have an Italian tax code (“codice fiscale”), enter the 16-character alphanumeric code assigned to you by Universitaly or Alice.
  2. Log in with your username and password on https://portal.cli.unipi.it/web/login to be able to choose a test session.
    After this, without closing the page and by using the same browser open another page by using one of the links below according to the date you choose for the test. The links below are to register to the placement test:
  • September 9th, 2024 – https://portal.cli.unipi.it/slides/iph-foundation-september-9th-2024-placement-389 – Registration is possible until 23:59 of the previous day.
  • September 10th, 2024 – https://portal.cli.unipi.it/slides/iph-foundation-september-10th-2024-placement-390) – Registration is possible until 23:59 of the previous day.
    To register click on the blue button ‘ISCRIVITI’.

3. On the day of the test you will receive an email containing your access credentials. Use those credentials to login though one of the following links to take test.

  • September 9th, 2024 – https://elearning.cli.unipi.it/course/view.php?id=5156
  • September 10th, 2024 – https://elearning.cli.unipi.it/course/view.php?id=5157
    The time to complete the test is max 90 minutes. The test will be available from 10:00 am to 23:59 pm.

    After the test, you will receive an e-mail where there will be the following info:
  • Your class and place
  • Timetables
  • Link to attend the online class (only if you have chosen the online mode). PLEASE NOTE THAT IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE ONLINE CLASSES YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO THE ALICE PORTAL

    All the online classes (also the ones held in English from Humanities/ Science) are held through Microsoft Teams. The procedure to get registered to the online classes is here
