Pre-enrollment and Visa

Study Visa Application Procedure – Academic Year 2026/2027

If you are a non-EU student residing outside of Italy and have been accepted into the Foundation Course (Science/Humanities/Single Modules), you must apply for a Study Visa (Type D) to attend the program in Pisa.

The Procedure Overview

The visa process consists of two mandatory steps:

  1. Pre-enrolment application via the Universitaly portal.
  2. Visa application at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.

Please note: Your pre-enrolment must first be validated by the University of Pisa. Once validated, you are entitled to contact the Embassy/Consulate to proceed with the Visa application.


Step-by-Step: How to Pre-enrol on Universitaly

To complete your pre-enrolment for the 2026/2027 academic year, please follow these instructions:

  1. Registration:
    • Go to the Universitaly Portal.
    • Select “International Students”“Pre-enrol now”.
    • Click on “Sei un nuovo utente? Registrati” and fill out the form.
  2. Starting the Application:
    • Select: “Extra-EU citizen: Pre-enrolment application for a study VISA for Italy”.
    • Click on “Nuova domanda di pre-iscrizione”.
    • Select Academic Year: “2026/2027”.
  3. Filling out the Data:
    • Step B: Upload all required documents (ID/Passport and academic records).
    • Step C:
      • Motivo della richiesta: “Voglio immatricolarmi a un corso di studio”.
      • Istituzione: “Università”.
      • Nome istituzione: “Università di Pisa”.
      • Tipo corso: “Corso propedeutico (Foundation Course)”.
      • Nome corso: Select “Foundation Course Humanities” or “Science”.
      • ID Account at University: Leave empty.
  4. Documents & Submission:
    • Upload the same documents used for your Foundation Course application.
    • Tip: To upload multiple files, click “Carica titolo” after each upload.
    • Check the box “Ho preso visione del trattamento dei dati”.
    • Click “Invia la domanda di pre-iscrizione”.

Next Steps

After we validate your application, you will receive a confirmation email. You must then contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country to start the formal Visa issuance procedure.
